Opening Statement nt
“According to the World Health Organization (WHO), nutritional support is
an integral part of a comprehensive response to HIV/AIDS. There is
evidence that nutrient intake can improve antiretroviral absorption and
tolerance. Receiving appropriate nutrition can help improve the health and
quality of life of HIV-infected individuals. Individuals who receive
antiretroviral therapy (ART) with appropriate nutrition are more likely to
regain weight and more likely to adhere to their medications, thus helping
them rejoin the work force and improve food security for themselves and
their families.”

A Powerful Nutritional Antioxidant Supplement Formula
•
A Multi-Nutritional Supplement Designed to Address AIDS Wasting
Syndrome in Conjunction with Anti-Viral Therapies
•
Vital Support for HIV/AIDS Treatment Adherence and Tolerance
(reduces or eliminates side effects of HAART medications)
•
Corrects Micronutrient Deficiencies Associated with HIV/AIDS

A Comprehensive Formula that Effectively Addresses the Multiple
Concerns Regarding HIV/AIDS-Associated Malnutrition
•
Nutraplete Delivers More Protein, Antioxidants, Micronutrients and
Essential Dietary Supplements at Levels Recommended by Health &

Care (When Compared to Ensure and Other Dietary Supplements)
•
Micronutrient Deficiencies are Reliable Predictors of Morbidity and
Mortality – the Onset of Opportunistic Infections Associated with
Catabolic Cachexia (AIDS Wasting Syndrome) and Significant
Disease Progression... This Results in Antiretroviral Resistance, Long
Term Hospitalization and Significant Costs
•
There is Sufficient Data in the Literature to Suggest that
Nutraplete May Postpone the Necessity of HAART... Resulting in
Enormous Positive Economic Impact

Nutraplete Supports Patient Compliance and Lowers Patient
Costs
•
All Antiretroviral Drugs Have Side Effects.
•
Initial NNRTI Regimens are the Simplest and Least Expensive of All
HAART Cocktails
•
Nutraplete Improves Patient Nutrition and Eliminates the Macro and
Micronutrient Deficiencies in HIV/AIDS. Drug Side Effects are
Minimized,
•
Compliance is Enhanced, and More Patients can Remain Virally
Controlled on First Line, Significantly Less Expensive Medicines
•
Example: In The Clinton Foundation, the Cost of Atripla as
Components is Less than $2 Dollars (US) Per Day. Protease-
Containing HAART Regimens Often Require Boosting with Low
Dose Norvir: Cost $1,000 Dollars (US) Per Month.
•
The Resulting Savings Within Patient Populations are Enormous. For
Example, in 2007, 3798 Patients were Diagnosed with HIV in
Mexico. By Providing Nutraplete, and Avoiding Moving to
Aggressive HAART Therapy, Savings Realized for Not Having to
Provide Novir Alone Would be $45.6 Million Per Year!

Nutraplete Helps Keep Patients on NNRI Regimens Longer
•
Nutraplete Mitigates the Need and Expense of Genotype/Phenotype

HIV/AIDS is a Paradigm of Accelerated Aging
•
The Virus, the Drugs, or Both, Cause Increased Cellular
Inflammation, Increased Tissue Damage and Complications Usually
Seen in Aging Populations
•
•
These Include Diabetes, Heart Disease, Stroke and Kidney Disease
•
These Complications Result in Significant Health Care Costs in
Addition to Those Already Associated with HIV/AIDS Infection
•
Nutraplete Provides Complete Nutritional Support Plus
Micronutrients and Antioxidants (Including Glutathione, the Most
Important Endogenous Antioxidant in Humans)
•
Nutraplete Helps Neutralize the Increased Free Radical Production
Associated with Heightened Immune Activity in HIV/AIDS Infection.
This Reduces Cellular Inflammation, Which Can Reduce the Onset of
HIV/AIDS-Associated Diseases

Researcher Estimates Lifetime Cost Of AIDS Care
December 14, 2006 – Medical Care has published a research study on the
lifetime costs of care for individuals infected with HIV in its November
2006 issue. Researcher Dr. Bruce Schackman, at Weill Cornell
Medical College led the study.
According to Schackman, the monthly average cost for medical care
for AIDS patients is $2,100 a month. The projected life expectancy of
those on optimal care is 24.2 years. The lifetime cost is $618,900 per
person.
The 1993 estimate of the life expectancy of an HIV-infected person
was 6.8 years. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has estimated
that 40,000 new individuals are infected each year in the U.S.
Treating these infections will cost $12.1 billion in future treatment
costs.

Closing Statement
“Nutritional status is strongly predictive of survival and functional status
among people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH/A). Nutritional problems may
occur at any stage of disease and can contribute to impaired immune
response, accelerate disease progression, increase the frequency and severity
of opportunistic infections, and impede the effectiveness of medications.
Fortunately, many nutritional disturbances are preventable and manageable.”
