Week Three and Four: Will’s Stemulite Trial

Hi everyone! First of all, let me apologize for the lack of last week’s article. This was due to my laptop deciding to stop working! Anyway, I’m back and here to catch up on the last fortnight.

SATURDAY:
Hours Slept:
23:00 – 07:00 – a great night sleep. Woke up an hour earlier than id planned, giving me time to do some work stuff before teaching.
Feeling:
Despite the DOMS I had last week after my arm session on the Friday, today I felt fine. LOVING this recover speed!
Travel:
Drove to work (due to having to pick up a box of equipment needed to teach)
Work Hours:
09:30 – 10:00

Workout:
Today was a bonus rest day, after training arms a day early yesterday. Also, as mentioned, I had a busy day, visiting family and going to a wedding.

SUNDAY
Hours Slept:
22:00 – 08:00 – didn’t set an alarm, but woke up early. A few weeks ago, that was unheard of.
Feeling:
I had loads of energy today and made the most of it. Went out for a run, as well as doing some DIY around the house.

Workout:

MONDAY
Hours Slept:
23:00 – 07:00 deep, solid sleep.
Feeling:
Woke up feeling the same as I did yesterday. Wide awake and alert.
Travel:
5km cycle to/ from work.
Work Hours:
09:30 – 18:00
Classes Taught:
Spin 19:00 – 19:45, HIIT Training 19:45 – 20:15
Workout:
Rest Day.

TUESDAY
Hours Slept:
22:00 – 08:00 solid sleep, no alarm set due to having the day off. Snoozed until around 9:15
Feeling:
I felt AWESOME. Woke up fresh and got better throughout the day.

Annual Leave as it was my anniversary and spent some quality time with my other half.

WEDNESDAY
Hours Slept:
21:45 – 05:15
Feeling:
I woke up before the alarm again today. Wide awake. I got up, ate and got to work extra early, ready for my early Insanity session.

06:15 – 11:15

Insanity Live, 06:30 – 07:00
Workout:
Workout One: Chest and Back.

THURSDAY
Hours Slept:
20:00 – 05:30.
Feeling:
Wide awake, refreshed and DOMS free!
Travel:
5 Km cycle to/ from work.
Work Hours:
06:45-14:45
Classes Taught:
Spin 07:15-07:45 and CXWORX 09:30-10:00
Workout:
Legs and shoulders, 14:45 – 15:30 and a 5Km run in the evening.

FRIDAY
Hours Slept:
22:45 – 08:30
Feeling:
Awesome. No stiffness and ready to go!
Travel:
5 Km cycle to/ from work.
Work Hours:
14:00 – 22:00

None.
Workout:
Arms and abs. Going to have a run tomorrow, ready for next week’s Mud run.

WEEK FOUR

SATURDAY:

Feeling:
Today I struggled to ‘get going’. But after a half hour, I was fine.

22:00 – 08:00 – Woke up early, again. I used to love my lay-ins but now I don’t really need them.
Feeling:
I had loads of energy today, but decided to relax and prep meals for the following week and just relax.

Feeling:
I felt great this morning.
Travel:

CXWORX 09:30-10:00 & 18:30-19:00; Insanity Live 19:30-20:00.
Workout:
Today was a test workout. Following an over-training principle, I tried out a high volume chest-specific workout. The last time I tried this session was pre-Stemulite and my DOMS lasted for SIX WHOLE DAYS! Let’s see what happens this time!

WEDNESDAY
Hours Slept:

Feeling:
Wide awake this morning. Flagged a little, midmorning but picked back up again, after I realised id not eaten since I got to work. And my DOMS was minimal. Probably 3-4/ 10 compared to last attempt at that workout, it was a 12/10 for three days straight, before it started to reduce.

06:15 – 14:15
Classes Taught:
Insanity Live, 06:30 – 07:00
Workout:
Workout two, shoulders and legs.
Tablets:

THURSDAY
Hours Slept:
22:00 – 07:30.
Feeling:
Wide awake, refreshed and DOMS free! That’s right, NO DOMS! Incredible.
Travel:
5 Km cycle to/ from work.
Work Hours:
11:00-19:00
Classes Taught:
CXWORX 09:30-10:00 & Spin 18:00-18:45
Workout:
Back and abs, 10:00-10:45

FRIDAY
Hours Slept:
22:45 – 08:30
Feeling:
Well-rested and eager to train, despite tapering my workouts for my race on Sunday.
Travel:
5 Km cycle to/ from gym.
Work Hours:
None.
Classes Taught:
None.
Workout:
None. 30-minute Grid Roller session, to loosen up, ready for Sunday.

So, I have upped my volume of resistance training, just to see how far I can push this recovery and I’m constantly surprised by and I become more and more hooked each time. I’m looking forward to my last mud run of the year being out of the way, so that I can focus on some hard core hypertrophic training for the rest of this trial and after!
